This one-of-a-kind destination, forged of imposing stone walls and steeped in palatial luxury, is an enduring testament to a time in which the Tudors reigned supreme.
The castle was originally conceived and constructed by Edward Stafford, the only man to rival the king’s wealth and status at that time. It was a display of wealth and ambition that Henry did not take kindly to, and after Stafford was found guilty of treason, the king took control of the castle he so coveted. A brief, beloved retreat for Henry and his new bride, Anne Boleyn, Thornbury Castle has since weathered the tumult of British history over the centuries. Today, it stands just as tall as it did in those days of courtly intrigue; renewed with care by its current custodians and imbued with the regal grandeur of its past. 15 ACRES OF LAND…
The 15 acres of land that surround the castle itself provide both stunning views and boundless activity for all who stay with us. From the fineries of our meticulously manicured lawns to the numerous gardens and rolling countryside, our outdoor areas are just as evocative of historic Tudor England as the stone walls and majestic interiors of the castle itself.
Inspiring and invigorating, impressive and intimate; these are the qualities that set our castle and its grounds apart as a wonderfully impactful setting for meetings, team building and training. Located within 30 minutes from Bristol City Centre and Bristol Parkway, our two distinct event spaces are able to accommodate up to either 20 or 66 guests.
Our two meeting and conference spaces differ in scale, but both options include a wealth of high-quality, complimentary extras, including all-inclusive, 2 Rosette food and beverage packages.
THE BARON’S SITTING ROOM
Dating back over 500 years, the Baron’s Sitting Room offers an intimate retreat and includes use of the private Chancellor’s Lounge.
THE TUDOR HALL
For larger events, the singular majesty of our grand Tudor Hall ensures that everybody who passes through its entranceway can’t help but feel inspired by their surroundings.

Join us for breakfast, dinner or Sunday lunch in one of our four dining rooms and you’ll find yourself indulging in a dazzling experience with a heritage befitting of its storied surroundings – one that encompasses seventies extravagance courtesy of regular past guests including Sophia Loren and Laurence Olivier. Today, our talented team is led by Executive Chef, Carl Cleghorn, and Food & Beverage Manager, Frederic Bellard, who both have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and are proud to offer our guests a wide range of delicious and impressive menus to suit all occasions.

Celebrate this Christmas at Thornbury Castle with our inclusive three- and four-night package.
Christmas Eve – Enjoy a delicious cream tea and join us at 7pm in the Tudor Hall for festive music, champagne and canapés, followed by dinner in our award-winning restaurant.
Christmas Day – Breakfast will be served in our restaurant or relax with a breakfast served in your bedchamber. From midday, enjoy pre-lunch Champagne drinks reception with live music followed by Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. From 7pm, enjoy a pre-dinner festive cocktail followed by a buffet dinner.
Boxing Day – Hunter’s breakfast will be served in the dining room and afternoon tea in our Tudor Hall from 1pm, then join our fascinating history tour to learn about the castle. Join our four-course Gala Farewell dinner from 7.30pm where you will be entertained by an acoustic guitarist.
