Somerset House Summer Party
Set against the backdrop of Somerset House’s iconic façade and with breath-taking views across the Thames, the River Terrace is one of our most exclusive outdoor spaces – the perfect location to invite your guests to enjoy a private reception while the London landmarks light up your summer event.
Our River Terrace can host up to 500 people for a standing reception or, can be made to feel more intimate for smaller numbers.
Somerset House Trust was established in 1997 to maintain the beautiful 18th century building, provide access for all to its spaces and run an arts and cultural centre. Somerset House opened as a public space in 2000 with the magnificent Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court at the heart of this great architectural masterpiece. A distinctive outdoor public programme is now established with many opportunities for corporate hospitality packages, including the most glamorous ice rink in London in the winter, concerts and an open-air film season in the summer. A series of innovative temporary exhibitions and free public displays has been mounted in our versatile spaces since 2008. Twice a year London Fashion Week is based at Somerset House, attracting the world’s fashion press and design commentators. The historic Seamen’s Hall has been at the heart of Somerset House since its beginnings as the nerve centre of the nation’s naval power in 1789.

This space offers an air of expansive grandeur for evening events with the ability for guests to enjoy al fresco entertaining on our River Terrace, a section of which is included in the Seamen’s Hall hire.

The River Terrace is one of Somerset House’s most exclusive spaces. Available for evening hire for up to 500 guests as an alfresco reception space, or through installation of a stunning glass structure for 200 guests for dinner, the River Terrace has beautiful views of the building’s 18th century façade and across the Thames to the South Bank.
Portico Rooms

The perfect proportions of the Portico Rooms offer a contemporary and elegant space, flooded with natural daylight by expansive windows.
The Portico Rooms are an ideal location for entertaining, with balconies on either side of the main room providing uninterrupted views of the River Thames on one side and The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court on the other.

Available for bespoke evening hire on selected dates throughout the year
One of the most architecturally stunning courtyards in central London, The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court features a ‘grove’ of fifty-five water jets, specially choreographed and enhanced with fibre-optic lighting.
This extraordinary space can accommodate up to 450 guests for a dinner dance or 1,500 guests for a reception – alfresco or in a bespoke marquee.

We can stage a wide variety of events in this al fresco space. Perfect for summer parties, why not invite your guests to a private barbecue expertly planned by one of our caterers or simply enjoy a drinks reception while the London landmarks light up your event. THE EDMOND J. SAFRA FOUNTAIN COURT
Located off the Strand in the heart of London, The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court is centred around our iconic fountains and surrounded on all sides by glorious 19th century buildings. Popular with the public throughout the year, the courtyard hosts some of the city’s best-loved events such as the Summer Series, Film4 Summer Screen and Skate. This exclusive space is also available for bespoke evening events.
The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court has a capacity for up to 1,500 people, either in the open air or in a specially tailored structure. Working with fully accredited caterers, production companies and other event professionals, our imaginative and experienced in-house team can help style this prestigious space to your requirements. Availability is limited so please contact us for further details.

PORTICO ROOMS
Our most popular private hire venue offering balcony views over both The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court and the Thames. This network of four elegant 18th century spaces can be adapted for any type of event. We’ve previously hosted press days, meetings, conferences, receptions, dinners, wine tastings, exhibitions and a wide range of other gatherings.
The Portico Rooms is connected to the Navy Board Rooms, and you can hire the two venues in tandem for larger bookings. For details, please get in touch.

Somerset House is delighted to introduce day delegate rate packages for conferencing in both our Portico Rooms and Navy Board Rooms. Inspire guests by inviting them to the 21st Century creative hub that is Somerset House and the stunning, bright Portico Rooms for up to 100 delegates. Looking for a venue to host a smaller conference in a spectacular setting? Our Navy Board Room day delegate rate packages for up to 60 delegates is the perfect option.
