The Serpentine Gallery
The Serpentine Gallery was established in 1970 and is housed in a Grade II-listed former tea pavilion built in the 1930s by architect James Grey West. The interconnecting galleries make it ideal for a large reception and easy to adapt for smaller groups and seated dinners. Capacities in the space vary dependent on the exhibition in place at the time; however, the venue’s standard maximum standing capacities range from between 100–200, and seated dinner capacities can be for up to 60 in the North Gallery.
Serpentine North Gallery
The Serpentine North Gallery, a former 1805 Grade II listed gunpowder store, opened in 2013, returning it to public use for the first time in its 208-year history. The spacious perimeter and two rectangular ‘powder rooms’ present a wonderful setting for drinks receptions and smaller dinners. Capacities in the space vary dependent on the exhibition in place at the time; however, the venue’s standard maximum standing capacities range from between 100–200, and seated dinner capacities can be for a maximum of 40 in one powder room.
For larger parties, the adjoining Magazine restaurant can be incorporated, accommodating standing receptions across the site for up to 500, and seated dinners for up to 120.Packages
Located in the heart of Kensington Gardens, the Serpentine Galleries offer three unique event spaces for corporate and private hire that combine the grace of historic Grade II-listed buildings with innovative architecture and contemporary art spaces.
Comprising the Serpentine Gallery, Serpentine North Gallery and annual Serpentine Pavilion, the Serpentine Galleries are a spectacular collection of spaces in which to hold your event.
Available year-round, the Serpentine Galleries celebrate the very best in contemporary art with an annual programme of changing exhibitions. Each exhibition provides an extraordinary setting within which to hold your own celebration.
Complimenting the seasonal programme is the acclaimed Serpentine Pavilion, situated on the Serpentine Gallery lawn between June–October annually. The Pavilion extends the venue, making it our premium summer reception space that combines both indoor and outdoor space, art, and architecture.
The Serpentine Galleries can be privately hired for breakfast and evening events year-round, with full day hire available on Mondays in off-peak seasons, and multiple day blank canvas hire available throughout February and September London Fashion Weeks.
Since its launch in 2000, the annual Serpentine Pavilion has become one of the most anticipated events in the global cultural calendar, and a leading visitor attraction during London’s summer season of culture.
Each year, an internationally known architect is invited to design and create their first built structure in England: the Serpentine Pavilion.
Along with the Serpentine Gallery, the Serpentine Pavilion can accommodate summer receptions for up to 500 guests. Designs of the Pavilion vary dramatically, and this changes the capacity of the structure itself. As it becomes an increasingly popular space for entertaining, requirements of each design now include: a water-proof covering, lighting, power, and an in-built bar. As standard, maximum sheltered standing capacities range from between 200-300, and seated dinner capacities can be for a maximum of 70.
