Scotland’s most sustainable building, nestles within the biodiversity garden and beautifully managed landscapes close to the Garden’s west gate, the stunningly fresh and vibrant 120 seat restaurant of the John Hope Gateway building opens out onto a breath taking vista across the Garden and offers one of the finest dinner setting imaginable for all occasions.
The adjacent David Douglas Room will take your breath away; bright, modern and sympathetic to its natural surroundings, a truly unique private dining or meeting space!
The Caledonian Hall, built originally as the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society’s herbarium, this decidedly charming old building has a sophisticated but relaxed air, perfect for hosting the most special of events and meetings. To enhance your event at the Caledonian Hall there is a lovely outdoor reception area and bright and airy Pavilion with folding glass doors, offering a wonderful aspect of the Garden’s Rockery and Waterfall, a perfect breakout area or an ideal space for a drinks reception.
The Caledonian Hall and adjoining Pavilion can be hired exclusively from 8am until midnight.
The David Douglas Room can be hired from 8am until midnight. This is our private dining venue however it is also a lovely venue for team building events and away days.
The John Hope Gateway operates as a restaurant during the day but can be hired exclusively for evening events from 6.30pm until midnight.

Royal Botanic Garden Summer Party
PackagesThe Caledonian Hall is situated at the East side of the Garden. Originally built as the herbarium, it boasts stunning high ceilings and large windows offering lots of natural day light – with views looking out over the Rock Gardens and waterfalls. The Pavilion next door is a purpose built permanent marquee with Constantine doors opening fully, along with indoor heating.
This venue comes complete with a fully stocked bar, licence until midnight and background music system. Seats 100 people for dinner and 120 for a reception.
Opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 2010, The John Hope Gateway is set at the West side of the Edinburgh Garden. This bright, modern space can be transformed for any type of event even offering al fresco dining with stunning views over the Biodiversity Garden. The venue will seat up to 350 people for dinner, and host up to 450 for a reception.
The David Douglas Room is situated within The John Hope Gateway, and is bright, modern and sympathetic to its surroundings creating a truly unique private space. This venue is perfect for more intimate gatherings, as well as corporate away days for up to 40 people.
