NE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS BANQUET AND CONFERENCE VENUES IN LONDON

Located on the River Thames near Trafalgar Square, One Whitehall Place adjacent to The Royal Horseguards Hotel is one of the most unique venues in London.

One Whitehall Place was originally built from 1882-1887 as the National Liberal Club. The building was erected to provide a central location for Liberals throughout the United Kingdom, to promote Liberal interests, and also “to found a political and historical library as a permanent memorial to the services which the Right Hon. W.E. Gladstone has rendered the country”.

Popular architect Sir Alfred Waterhouse designed the building around an impressive central unsupported marble staircase, and the Club’s impressive neo-gothic building over the Embankment of the River Thames is the second-largest clubhouse ever built. Its facilities included a dining room, a bar, function rooms, a billiards room, a smoking room and reading room.

In 1985, an opportunity arose for the adjacent 5-star Royal Horseguards Hotel to take over two floors of the Club so these floors were renovated and re-identified as One Whitehall Place. One Whitehall Place consists of seven function rooms (including the Gladstone Library), that can accommodate events of 30 to 650 people, some offering stunning views over River and London Eye.

The architectural heritage of the building has earned it Grade I status, and has made it one of London ’s most iconic buildings. All of the function rooms boast fine examples of the architecture and interior design, which provide a magnificent back drop to any event.

The Gladstone Library 

This unique setting offers 280 square meters of naturally lit space that accommodates up to 300 people in theatre style. It can also be used in conjunction with the adjoining reading and writing room.

Churchill’s Bar

The great statesman was not the only political titan to debate and relax, within the National Liberal Club’s walls: Asquith, Lloyd George and many others shared a glass and a frank exchange of views here. Churchill’s Bar captures this spirit. It’s a place of tranquillity and character: of strong words, softly spoken. Ideal for a drinks reception, for small-scale gatherings or a postprandial chat.

The Whitehall suite

Enjoying the same footprint as the Gladstone Library above, it can comfortably accommodate 240 people in theatre style, and has both the classical grandeur and modern technology necessary to make your event unforgettable.

The Meston Suite

The Meston Suite allows for intimate functions with seating for up to 70. The room was designed to make the most of natural light and the floor to ceiling windows command an impressive view of the original Ministry of Defence. The Meston Suite is an ideal room for private dining or smaller receptions and our head chef will create the perfect menu to match your own particular needs.

The River Room

The River Room, once the National Liberal Club’s Ladies Lounge, looks out across Victoria Embankment and the River Thames. The River Room is an ideal room for private dining or smaller receptions and our head chef will create the perfect menu for you.

The Reading & Writing Room

The Reading and Writing Room can accommodate 120 people seated and can be combined with the Gladstone Library to create a flexible exhibition space, reception room or break out area.
