WELCOME TO GUILDHALL
Home to the City of London Corporation and still the centre of government in the City of London, the impressive interiors of our Grade I-listed landmark provide the perfect setting for any occasion, large or small, daytime or evening – across eleven versatile spaces.

A venue fit for a King, the dramatic Guildhall offers an impressive setting for parties, receptions, seated dinners, meetings and lunches.

Guildhall has been the City powerhouse since the twelfth century. In an era when the Lord Mayor of London rivalled the monarch for influence and prestige, this was where he and the ruling merchant class held court, fine-tuned the laws and trading regulations that helped create London’s wealth. Today, 800 years on, Guildhall is still home of the City of London Corporation, and acts as a grand setting for glittering banquets in honour of visiting Heads of State and other dignitaries, royal occasions, and receptions for major historical anniversaries.

Situated in the heart of the City of London, the world’s leading financial and business centre, this rare and magnificent medieval Grade I listed landmark offers a spectacular backdrop for corporate events and banquets. With a clientele that includes leading international companies, charities, organisations, professional and academic bodies, Guildhall offers a unique combination of an esteemed historical setting whilst being fully equipped with excellent facilities for modern business requirements.

Guildhall is managed by the City Remembrancer’s Office which was established during the reign of Elizabeth I. All applications for using Guildhall must be approved by the Chief Commoner on a recommendation by the City Remembrancer.

Guildhall’s largest space, Great Hall is meant to impress
The spectacular setting for the annual Lord Mayor’s Banquet since 1502, Great Hall is a vast space with soaring, high-arched ceiling and 5ft thick walls. Natural light floods in at each end through two huge, Gothic stained-glass windows with the names of past Lord Mayors emblazoned on each side.

In between hang the banners of London’s twelve great Livery Companies, and monuments to Britain’s national heroes — Admiral Lord Nelson, the Duke of Wellington, Sir Winston Churchill— line the walls. The colossal figures of London’s legendary giants, Gog and Magog, said to have founded London, watch over proceedings.

With its distinctive and evocative features, Great Hall can be adapted to a variety of events, styles and numbers.

Immediately beneath Great Hall lie the oldest parts of Guildhall
Dating back to Edward the Confessor (1042) and divided into two rooms, the East and West Crypts are equally atmospheric, yet completely different in style.

The East Crypt survived the Great Fire and boasts a stunning vaulted ceiling decorated with carved bosses of heads, shields and flowers resting upon stone and marble pillars. The West Crypt, believed to date from the thirteenth century, was completely sealed off after collapsing under the weight of Great Hall’s fallen roof in 1666. It was reopened in 1973, following extensive restoration.

With a maximum combined capacity of 500, the Crypts today provide an unusual and evocative space, either as a complement to Great Hall or more intimately on their own.
